Citizens Stop Thief
On Tuesday, March 12, we received a 911 call about a man who just forcefully stole a woman’s purse while she was wearing it. Three citizens saw what was happening, and gave chase as the suspect ran from the scene with the purse in his hands. They persuaded the suspect to stop a few blocks away and surrounded him until police could arrive and take him into custody.
Avyon Willimas, a 22 year old Tracy resident, was arrested and booked into county jail for 211 PC Robbery and a warrant from Sacramento County for 245(a)(1) PC—Assault With a Deadly Weapon. This incident occurred in the shopping center at the northwest corner of Tracy Blvd. and Grant Line Rd. The victim suffered minor injuries, and was not hospitalized because of this attack.
The Tracy Police Department would like to thank the citizens who assisted in this apprehension. Not all of them wish to be publicly recognized, so we will not release their names. While we do not encourage anyone to insert themselves into a dangerous situation, we are grateful they were able to help us capture this violent thief, and return the purse and its contents back to the victim.
