Flood Watch until 01:00AM Friday

One final round of rain is falling across northwest Wisconsin this afternoon which could lead to flooding before the rain changes to snow tonight. Above freezing temperatures combined with the deep snow pack may lead to flooding, especially in areas of poor drainage due to snow cover. There have already been reports of water ponding on area roads and some roads covered with water. Another dangerous impact from this storm will be the potential for roof collapses due to rain on top of snow pack on area roofs, which will become very heavy if saturated by rainfall. Basement flooding will also be possible, along with roof leaks due to ice dams. The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* Portions of north central Wisconsin and northwest Wisconsin, including the following areas, in north central Wisconsin, Price. In northwest Wisconsin, Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Sawyer, and Washburn.

* Until 1 AM CDT Friday

* Off and on rainfall continues late today leading to an additional quarter inch of rain. This rain, coupled with temperatures above freezing and snow melt will increase the threat for flooding.

* Street flooding will be the most noticeable impact, but prepare for basement flooding (check your sump pumps) and ice dam backups on roofs. The added weight of the rain-soaked snow on roofs may cause them to collapse especially on barns and outbuildings. There have already been reports of water over roads and ponding on some roads.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BAYFIELD ... PRICE ... WASHBURN ... SAWYER ... IRON ... ASHLAND ... BURNETT ... DOUGLAS
