Fatal Traffic Collision
On Saturday, March 16, 2019, at approximately 6:11 AM, Torrance Police Officers responded to the area of Crenshaw Boulevard and Maricopa Street regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation reveals the lone driver of a 2018 black Nissan Sentra was traveling south on Crenshaw Boulevard through Maricopa Street on a green light when she collided with a pedestrian walking westbound outside of the crosswalk.
The pedestrian, described as an adult male, sustained major injuries and was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The pedestrian has not yet been identified.
During the investigation, Officers recovered suspected narcotics from the driver. Officers also suspected the driver to be operating a vehicle under the influence and to be unlicensed. Erica Deleon, 30 yrs of Los Angeles, was subsequently arrested.
Southbound lanes of Crenshaw Boulevard will be temporarily closed between Del Amo Boulevard and Torrance Boulevard. Eastbound lanes of Maricopa Street are also closed at Crenshaw Boulevard.
