Narrative:
On March 24, 2019, at about 1712 hours, a traffic stop was conducted by the Moorpark Police Department on a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe on Tierra Rejada Road, near State Route 23, for vehicle equipment violations.
At the time of the traffic stop, the deputy identified the driver as Nicholas Lerma, a known and documented gang member residing in the City of Moorpark. Lerma displayed signs and symptoms of being under the influence of one or more controlled substances.
During the course of the investigation, a search of Lerma’s vehicle revealed a loaded silver handgun concealed in a trunk compartment of the vehicle.
Lerma was arrested for California Health and Safety Code 11550(e) – Under The Influence With a Firearm; California Penal Code 25400(a)(1) – Carry a Concealed Firearm Within a Vehicle;
California Penal Code 25850(c)(6) – Carry a Loaded Unregistered Firearm and California Penal
Code Section 186.22(a) – Participation in a Criminal Street Gang.
Lerma was booked into the East Valley Jail where he is currently being held in lieu of $200,000.00 bail. His court date is pending.
