Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury traffic crash on M 40 Hwy north of Bair Lake St. on 3-26-19 at 6:30am. Investigation of the crash showed that a vehicle driven by Alfred Hooker (51 yrs of Elkhart, IN) was traveling north bound on M 40 Hwy and began to have an unknown medical problem. Mr. Hooker stated he became dizzy and attempted to pull to the side of the roadway. His vehicle left the roadway to the right and entered a pond. Mr. Hooker was able to exit the vehicle and get to shore. He was assisted by a passerby. Mr. Hooker was transported to the hospital via Newberg Ambulance. Mr. Hooker was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Assisting on scene were Newberg Fire Department, and Newberg Ambulance.
