Fatal Traffic Collision
On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at approximately 8:59 PM, Torrance Police Officers responded to the 2300 block of Del Amo Boulevard regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation reveals the driver of a 2018 black Ford pickup was traveling eastbound in the 2300 block of Del Amo Boulevard. The driver attempted to avoid striking a dog in the roadway, but unfortunately collided with a pedestrian who was in close proximity.
The pedestrian, described as a 10-year-old boy, sustained major injuries and was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The identification of the victim is pending notification of kin.
Neither the driver of the 2018 Ford pickup, a 58 year-old male resident of Los Angeles, nor his passenger were injured. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Del Amo Boulevard will be temporarily closed between Crenshaw Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue to conduct the investigation.
This investigation is being conducted under the command of Torrance Police Captain Mark Underwood of the Special Operations Bureau.
