A Lawndale gang member pleaded no contest to murder and attempted murder and was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison shortly before his trial was set to begin in Torrance Superior Court, authorities said.

Erik Martinez, 21, also admitted to using a handgun during the crime and committing the crimes in association with a criminal street gang when he shot and killed a man and wounded another at a Redondo Beach gas station in June 2016, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
