Press Release: Suspect Arrested After Evading an Officer

SUSPECT VEHICLE: Silver 2019 Toyota Corolla
On April 5, 2019, at about 6:54 P.M., a Milpitas Police officer attempted to stop a 2019 Toyota Corolla for making an illegal u-turn at the intersection of North Milpitas Blvd and Dixon Landing Road. The driver of the Corolla, later identified as Benny Perez, fled from the officer at a high rate of speed and drove into the parking lot of the Spinnaker Pointe Apartments, located at 231 Dixon Landing Road. The officer found the Corolla parked in the apartment complex and saw Perez sitting in the vehicle. Perez ran away from the officer but the officer caught up to him and took him into custody.
Perez is on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and probation for domestic violence. He also had a felony warrant for violating the terms of his Post Release Community Supervision, a misdemeanor probation violation warrant, and was also driving on a suspended driver’s license.
Officers searched the Corolla and located approximately 20 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Perez was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance, evading in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and the warrants.
