Explosion Investigation
Ontario, CA – Ontario Police are investigating an explosion that injured three people at an apartment complex earlier this evening.
Just after 8:00 PM, Ontario Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the 1900 block of East Yale Street for a report of an explosion at an apartment. As patrol personnel arrived on scene, they discovered a two-story apartment on fire with multiple people injured. Ontario Fire Fighters acted quickly to extinguish the flames before they could spread to any adjacent structures and provided care for the wounded.
Investigators from the Ontario Police Career Criminal Division are working alongside Ontario Fire Arson Investigators to determine the exact cause of the explosion. A preliminary investigation has led them to believe that residents of the apartment were manufacturing illegal narcotics at the time it occurred.
The blast caused structural damage to the initial apartment and one adjacent to it. Two adult females and one adult male were injured and transported to a local area hospital for treatment. An additional adult female and two male juveniles were in the residence at the time of the explosion but were not injured.
The persons responsible for the explosion will be facing charges including manufacturing an illegal narcotic and child endangerment.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Brant Devey at 909-408-1715.
