Pomona Police Crisis Negotiation Team peacefully ends Barricaded Stand Off

DATE / TIME:  Saturday, April 14, 2019 / 6:41 PM
LOCATION:   1211 Bayport Circle, Pomona CA
CRIME:  459 PC – Residential Burglary / 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon
VICTIM:  Name Withheld
SUSPECT:  Cameron Magee, 29 years old, Pomona Resident
UNIT:   Patrol Division / Crisis Negotiation Team
NARRATIVE:
On Saturday, 04/13/19, at approximately 1841 hours Pomona PD dispatch received a call of a Residential Burglary in progress. A disoriented male, black subject forced his way into 1211 Bayport Circle. During the confrontation, the suspect, Cameron Magee, fought with the homeowner and struck him over the head with a glass floor scale.  The homeowner was able to retreat and fled the home to call PD from a neighbor’s home.  The suspect locked himself in the residence. It was unknown if the suspect had any weapons with him.

Officers arrived on scene and could hear the suspect inside the residence. A perimeter was established and an Air Unit was overhead in a matter of minutes. Officers requested the Crisis Negotiation Team and Officer Megan Gonzalez and Officer Zane Holmes responded.  Officer Gonzalez arrived first and took over negotiations from the primary officers. Officer Gonzalez recognized the suspect as someone she had encountered on previous calls for service and was able to establish a rapport with him.

During the nearly two hour negotiation, Officer Gonzalez was able to speak face-to-face with the suspect through a broken window until she was able to convince him to exit through the front door, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Officer Megan Gonzalez and Officer Zane Holmes have been a members of the Pomona Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team for two years. The Crisis Negotiation Team trains throughout the year for situations such as this and always hopes for a similarly peaceful resolution.
