DATE/TIME: April 16, 2019 / 12:56pm

INCIDENT: Felony Assault, False Imprisonment, Threatening a Crime

LOCATION: 16600 block of A Street, Victorville

SUSPECT: Jimmy Newton, 44-year old Victorville resident

VICTIM: Confidential

SUMMARY:
On April 16, 2019, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the 16600 block of A. Street for a domestic disturbance. The female reported she had been held against her will by her boyfriend, who had lunged at her with a screwdriver, and threatened to kill her and burn down the house. The victim was able to escape the house with the assistance of friends. Deputies evacuated the victim and her friends from the property, as well as others in homes adjacent to the incident location.

The suspect, identified as Jimmy Newton, locked himself inside the residence and refused to come out. Deputies made multiple attempts to convince the suspect to come out. He continued to refuse and told deputies he wanted to die. Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) was requested to assist at the scene. After continued failed attempts to convince the suspect to come out, SED deployed non-lethal gas into the house. The suspect exited and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was transported to nearby hospital for evaluation and will be booked at a San Bernardino County jail facility upon release. His charges include felony assault, false imprisonment, and threatening a crime. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident.
