The Ashland Police Department is conducting a selection process to develop a pool of qualified candidates for future vacancies for the position of: Support Services Officer.

The Ashland Police Department is seeking qualified individuals to fill the full-time, civilian position of Support Services Officer. Primary duties will include providing excellent service by phone, digital communication and in-person to a wide variety of stakeholders. The selected candidate will be someone who has successfully held similar positions, while showing fairness as well as patience, humility, and a sense of humor while dealing with internal and external customers.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a records environment and data entry; be familiar with regulation governing law enforcement records to include, CJIS, IBR, VCIN, Library of Virginia and FOIA; will have experience in a dynamic workplace that is transitioning to a paperless environment and can embrace using new technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, 3 to 5 years of experience in a clerical position; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. A background check, driving record check, and pre-employment drug screening is required.

This is a full-time position with excellent fringe benefits with an anticipated starting salary between $31,001 and $34,000 a year. General working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends as required.
