When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.


Notable Cases

On Monday, 04-08-19 at 6:55 a.m., a 30-year old Daly City resident was the victim of a dog attack on the 900 block of Schwerin Street. The attack was in progress as officers arrived, and the dog (belonging to a next-door neighbor) was fatally shot in order to stop the attack. The victim sustained major injuries to both arms and legs and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

On Tuesday, 04-09-19 at 7:50 a.m., Officer Andrade and Officer Sabins were dispatched to the Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Macy’s on a report of a subject that was sleeping with syringes next to him. When the officers arrived, they saw a subject matching the description who was being followed by Serramonte Security. Officer Andrade asked where the subject was going, and he said he needed to use the restroom. Officer Andrade said the suspect was carrying a backpack and could see syringes in plain view on top of the backpack. The security officers opened a restroom inside the mall so the subject could use it. Officer Andrade noticed the subject appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The subject, a 33-year old resident of Ohio, had a warrant from San Mateo County for theft and was on probation. Officer Andrade asked the subject if he had anything illegal on his person, and when the subject removed what he had from his pockets, he removed a large amount of currency. The subject also had a sandwich bag containing hundreds of pills as well as another bag containing a large amount of methamphetamine. The subject was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant and for possession for sales of a controlled substance.

On Friday, 04-12-19 at 3:24 a.m., a 19-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence as a minor after he and his vehicle were found stuck in the center median near the intersection of Mission Street and Templeton Avenue.

On Saturday, 04-13-19 at 1:14 a.m., Officer Ciucci was on patrol on the 1300 block of Skyline Drive and stopped a driver for not using his headlights. Officer Ciucci determined the driver, a 25-year old Daly City resident, was driving under the influence of drugs. The officer placed the driver under arrest for that, as well as for being in possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

On Saturday, 04-13-19 at 4:27 a.m., a 21-year old Daly City resident failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence after his vehicle was found parked on the sidewalk of 87th St and Junipero Serra Boulevard.


Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Tuesday, 04-09-19 at 1:10 a.m., Officer Hart was dispatched to the bus stop in the area of Mission Street and Flournoy Street on a report of a robbery that just occurred aboard a SamTrans bus. The victim, a 20-year old San Francisco resident, said he was at the bus stop in San Bruno and noticed a subject waiting for the bus. At that time, the suspect asked the victim what time the bus was coming. The victim said they both got on the bus, and he said the suspect asked him a question about the bus, when they were on the bus. The victim said as the bus was coming to a stop at Mission Street and Flournoy Street, he said the suspect approached him and sat very close to him, pressing something stiff into his hip area. The victim said the suspect said, “Give me everything you have, or I’ll shoot you.” The victim couldn’t see a firearm but felt the subject was motioning as if he had one. The victim said he was patting his pockets to stall and look to see if the subject had a gun. The victim saw that the subject used his hand to simulate a gun, so he stood up. He said as he stood up, the suspect reached into his pocket and removed the victim’s iPhone 6. The victim told the bus driver that the subject took his cell phone, and the suspect told the driver that the victim took his cell phone. The victim said they got off the bus, and the victim chased the suspect, demanding his phone back. The subject gave the victim back his phone and he asked him to not call the police. A passerby saw the incident and called the police. Lt. Brennan found the subject matching the description and detained him. The victim positively identified the subject, and Officer Hart arrested the subject, a 21-year old San Francisco resident, for robbery.

On Sunday, 04-14-19 at 11:55 a.m., a CVS (Pierce Street) employee was the victim of a strong-arm robbery after a subject hit her on the face as she was leaving the store with merchandise she stole. The employee was able to take a photo of the suspect’s vehicle as she drove away in it, and officers were able to locate the suspect, a 21-year old San Francisco resident, at her home. Officers placed the subject under arrest for robbery and organized retail theft.

There were no residential burglaries during the past week.


Commercial Burglaries

There were no commercial burglaries during the past week.


Vehicle Burglaries

There were nine vehicle burglaries during the past week.

• 200 block of Oriente Street—a backpack containing miscellaneous clothing was taken from a 2001 Toyota Sienna. The passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 04-08-19 between 12:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
• Westlake Shopping Center parking garage on Lake Merced Boulevard (2nd floor)—an Indian motorcycle backpack containing an iPad, Apple Pro and text books was taken from the passenger seat behind the driver’s seat of a 2018 Tesla SUV. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 04-08-19 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:39 p.m.
• In N Out restaurant parking lot (Washington Street)—two backpacks containing miscellaneous items was taken from behind the driver’s seat and on the passenger seat floorboard of a 2018 Ford Mustang. The passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 04-09-19 at 1:05 p.m. A passerby saw the theft, and this investigation is continuing.
• Parking garage at 7555 Mission Street--$500, two flashlights, three Apple phone chargers and a pair of Raybans was taken from a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred between 6:30 p.m. on 04-08-19 and 5:00 a.m. on 04-09-19.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot—boxes for delivery were taken from a UPS truck. The cargo compartment doors were pried. Occurred on 04-10-19 at 9:50 a.m.
• Skyline Plaza parking lot near Punj Liquor—nothing was taken from a 2018 Ford Mustang. The driver’s side window was smashed. Occurred on 04-10-19 at 6:40 p.m. A reporting party saw a subject breaking in, obtained the license plate, and the license plate turned out to be stolen.
• Westlake Avenue/San Diego Avenue--$12 was taken from a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred between 4:30 p.m. on 04-11-19 and 10:00 a.m. on 04-12-19.
• 600 block of Templeton Avenue--$17 was taken from a 2004 Ford F150. The passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 04-13-19 at 6:06 a.m. **An arrest was made in this case.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Dave & Busters—an unknown subject took the victim’s car keys while inside Dave & Busters and used the key to enter a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. An Adidas backpack containing a Michael Kors wallet and sunglasses was taken from the vehicle. Occurred on 04-04-19 between 10:00 p.m. and midnight. The keys were located a few parking spaces away and returned to the victim.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking structure (3rd floor)—a backpack containing a wallet with credit cards and $200 in foreign currency and a jacket was taken from the floorboard of a 2018 BMW X2. The right front and right rear windows were smashed. Occurred on 04-01-19 between 9:20 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.


Stolen Vehicles

There were two vehicles stolen during the past week. One was recovered.

• Unit block of Haven Drive—a 1993 Saturn S Series. Occurred on 04-11-19 between 12:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. **Recovered on 04-12-19 by the San Francisco CHP.
• 100 block of Coronado Avenue—a 1993 Honda Accord station wagon. Occurred between 1:00 p.m. on 04-11-19 and 3:00 a.m. on 04-12-19.


Miscellaneous

• There were 7 domestic disturbance cases reported
• There were 4 shoplifting incidents reported
• There were 7 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold
• There were 4 malicious mischief/vandalism case reported
• There was 1 arrest for public intoxication
• There were no hit and run collisions reported
• There were 5 “boots” placed on cars for unpaid parking tickets




Scams/Other

“Gift Card Award”

On 04-12-19, a 70-year old Daly City resident was the victim of theft by false pretenses after he wired $1,000.00 to an unknown subject who contacted him, telling him he had won a $500.00 gift card. The subject told the victim that he would credit his bank account for $1,500.00 and he need to wire him $1,000.00.
