Media Release - Barricaded Subject 5/1/2019 - 200 block Grasmur Turn
On Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at approximately 4:30pm Pine Hill Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Grasmur Turn for the report of a suicidal person. Upon arrival Officers secured the outer perimeter and made initial contact with the individual. The individual refused to comply with multiple requests from officers to exit the residence and at times, armed himself with an aluminum bat, hammer and large knife, threatening to harm the officers if they attempted to take him into custody. Officers on scene continued to communicate with the individual in an attempt to resolve the incident. The individual barricaded doors, windows and continued acting in an erratic manner. The Lower Camden County Region Special Response Team (comprised of Officers from Pine Hill, Berlin Boro, Berlin Twp, Voorhees and Waterford) arrived on scene for tactical assistance and to continue crisis negotiations. Negotiations continued until approximately 7:20pm at which time the individual peacefully surrendered to SRT Officers without injury to the individual, innocent bystanders or officers. The individual was taken to Jefferson Hospital, Cherry Hill for appropriate evaluations. At approximately 7:30pm the scene was declared safe and all residents in the immediate area were returned to their homes. Thank you to all of the effected residents for their patience and cooperation during the incident. Assisting agencies in addition to the Lower Camden County SRT included; Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Camden County OEM, Pine Hill Fire Department, AMR BLS, Clementon PD, Gloucester Twp.
