- Mendez, Fernando 22 Year Old Hemet Resident

Narrative:
On Friday, May 3, 2019, around 11:43 PM, members of the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) and the California Highway Patrol were partnered up, and working a gang suppression detail within the City of Pomona. Officers were providing extra patrol in the area of the 1000 block of E. Pasadena St. Officers saturated this area on foot as gang members in this area typically have a lookout for our Police cars. As Officers approached on foot, Suspect Barahona was caught by surprise. As soon as he learned of the presence of the Officers, he immediately reached into his waistband and in front of the Officers discarded a loaded firearm over a fence. Officers recovered the firearm and took Suspect Barahona into custody without incident. During the course of the investigation, Officers located a loaded rifle magazine and Suspect Mendez was also arrested.
