Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of April 28 - May 4, 2019

Dear Duarte Community,

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of April 28 through May 04, 2019.        
 
April 28, 2019

  • An Attempt Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1000 block of Huntington Drive. At approximately 8 p.m., the victim approached his vehicle and saw an adult male sitting inside and tampering with the ignition. When the victim and his two friends told the suspect to get out, he complied and walked away. Responding deputies located the suspect at the 7-Eleven located at 1430 Mountain Avenue and detained him. After conducting a Field-Show-up, the suspect was positively identified by the victim and his friends and was arrested for Attempt Grand Theft Auto. He was additionally charge with Vehicle Burglary.      
 
April 29, 2019
  • A Robbery was reported at 2705 Huntington Drive (7-Eleven).  At approximately 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance call and detained an adult male that an employee was holding down on the ground. During the investigation, deputies were informed the suspect and another male were playing loud music in front of the store and were asked to leave. The suspect refused to leave, entered the store and stole several packs of cigarettes.  When the suspect attempted to leave the store without paying, an altercation ensued between the suspect and an employee. The employee was able to detain the suspect pending the deputy’s arrival. The suspect sustained minor abrasions from the altercation and was treated at a local hospital. The involved employee was not injured. After further investigation, deputies arrested the suspect for robbery.  
 
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 1600 block of Bradbury Avenue. Between 6 p.m. on April 28th and 7 a.m. on the 29th, person(s) unknown pried open the victim’s truck bed cover and stole approximately $1,700 in tools.
 
April 30, 2019
  • A Grand Theft was reported in the 1300 block of Huntington Drive. Sometime between April 1st and the 15th, person(s) unknown stole a ring valued at over $5,000 from an apartment. The apartment was being fumigated at the time and the victim also had a roommate that moved out prior to the fumigation. The investigation is on-going.     
            
May 01, 2019
  • A Grand Theft was reported in the 2000 block of Royal Oaks Drive. Between 7:30 p.m. on April 30th and 11 a.m. on May 5th, suspect(s) stole approximately $950 in electronic devices and $250 in tools from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway. 
 
  • A vehicle Burglary was reported in the 1100 block of Encanto Parkway.  Sometime between 11:00 am and 7:30 pm, person(s) unknown shattered the victim’s rear passenger window, and stole a purse which contained $100 in cash, credit cards and house keys.  
 
May 02, 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:  Deputies were patrolling the Duarte Library located at 1304 Buena Vista Street when they observed an adult female sitting on the grass near a retaining wall. Due to numerous complaints regarding transients congregating in front and to the rear of the library, deputies contacted the female. The female admitted to being homeless and she was arrested after deputies found her to have two outstanding warrants for trespassing. The female was also found to be in possession of narcotic paraphernalia and was additionally charged. 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult female was observed concealing four bottles of alcohol in her bag, then walking out without paying for the items. The suspect fled on foot through the parking lot and out of sight. After reviewing surveillance footage, store security recognized the female from past incidents. Loss was estimated at $225.  The investigation is on-going.  
 
May 03, 2019
  • No significant activity.  
 
May 04 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:  Deputies responded to 1050 Huntington Drive (Target) regarding store security detaining an adult female who was observed concealing various items in a back pack. After exiting the store without paying for the items, she was detained by security. After further investigation, deputies arrested the female for shoplifting.  Incident to the arrest, deputies found several small baggies containing suspected methamphetamine and items consistent with sales of narcotics. The female was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine for sales and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
