On Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11:05 p.m., Menlo Park Police officers responded to La Hacienda Market located at 1933 Menalto Ave on an alarm call. Upon arrival, a vehicle was seen leaving the business and the business showed signs that a burglary had occurred. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield and attempted to flee from the officer by turning down the alley behind the market only to be trapped in the alley after finding a parked vehicle was blocking the exit.
The occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot into the neighborhood. A perimeter was established and a search was conducted utilizing a Palo Alto Police Department canine, Palo Alto Police officers and East Palo Alto Police Department officers. The search located two subjects hiding in a rear yard of a nearby home.
Charles Calhoun, a 36 year old male from Oakland, and Darian West, a 25 year old male from Antioch, were arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail for burglary, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest. All stolen property was recovered and returned to the business owner.
