When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.


Notable Cases

On Monday, 05-06-19 at 4:32 a.m., Officer Hart and several other officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Station Avenue on a report of a subject who said his girlfriend and new boyfriend were driving around his house, threatening him, and that he was in fear for his life. When Officer Hart arrived, he observed a male holding a pool cue in his hands standing in front of a residence. The subject put down the pool cue when asked and told the officers that his girlfriend and new boyfriend were driving around his block all night threatening him. The suspect changed his stories several times, and officers in the area could not find the vehicle or people question. The subject was advised to go back into his residence. About an hour later, the subject called 9-1-1 to report the same activity. The subject shouted and pointed at random cars and told Officer Hart to check the vehicles as he believed the subjects were in the cars. Officer Hart noticed the subject displayed objective signs and symptoms of stimulant influence and asked the subject if he had used any narcotics. The subject admitted to taking a “hit” of methamphetamine. The 37-year old subject was ultimately arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

On Tuesday, 05-07-19 at 8:17 p.m., a 44-year old Pacifica resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic collision in the area of Hickey Boulevard and the Highway 280 off-ramp.

On Thursday, 05-09-19 at 5:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Wells Fargo counter at the Lucky’s Store on Mission Street on a report of a subject who was using a fake social security number and identification to try to cash a check. The reporting party said the subject was in a hurry and was rushing the teller. The officers arrived when the subject was still at the counter. The subject, a 33-year old Oakland resident, had so many inconsistent stories regarding how she was in possession of identification not belonging to her, and she was ultimately arrested for forgery, identity theft, receiving stolen property and for possession a controlled substance.
On Sunday, 05-12-19 at 2:06 a.m., Officer Greene was dispatched to the 7300 block of Mission Street on a report of two adults passed out in the front seat of a Mitsubishi Outlander while a juvenile was in the back seat of a vehicle. Officer Greene arrived and found the vehicle running, and the keys were in the ignition. The officer saw a male subject in the driver’s seat with his feet positioned toward the gas and brake pedal and his hands on his lap. He observed a female in the front passenger seat with a young child who was sleeping unrestrained on the female’s chest. Additionally, Officer Greene saw second juvenile sleeping with her seat belt on in the second row of the vehicle. Officer Greene woke up the subjects and conducted field sobriety tests on the driver, a 41-year old Bay Point resident. He determined the subject was under the influence of alcohol. The subject’s 43-year old wife in the passenger seat had not consumed any alcoholic beverages and drove their 3 and 10-year old children home. Officer Greene arrested the subject for driving under the influence and for misdemeanor child endangerment.

On Sunday, 05-12-19 at 6:42 p.m., Officer Ciucci was dispatched to the area of Skyline Drive and Westridge Avenue on a report of a reckless driver who almost hit the reporting party’s vehicle. The reporting party provided the dispatcher a description of the vehicle and had followed the vehicle to the unit block of Skyline Drive. Officer Ciucci arrived to find the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway, with the engine running and brake lights activated. The officer approached the driver’s side and saw a subject sleeping. Officer Ciucci reached through the open window and turned the gear selector in park, engaged the emergency brake, turned off the ignition and removed the keys. In doing so, he awoke the subject. The subject was extremely intoxicated and was ultimately arrested for driving under the influence.


Robberies


There were two robberies during the past week.

On Wednesday, 05-08-19 at 12:40 p.m., a 37-year old loss prevention officer at Home Depot was punched by a 60-year San Francisco resident after the employee confronted the female subject for stealing an item. The subject was located nearby on Coronado Avenue and was arrested for robbery and for possession of unlawful paraphernalia.

On Saturday, 05-11-19, Officer Cain and Officer Reininger were dispatched to the area of Sullivan Avenue and Southgate Avenue on a report of an armed robbery via handgun. The reporting party/victim said he was standing on the curb when a black Acura pulled up and flashed his headlights. The 45-year old victim thought it was his “Uber”, but when he approached the vehicle, he saw the license plate was not the one he was looking for. The victim said he started to walk away, and the driver called out to him and offered him money. The victim said a second subject exited the vehicle, pointed a gun in his face and demanded all of his belongings. After the victim gave the subjects his backpack and cell phone, he said the subjects drove away at a high rate of speed. This investigation is continuing.


Residential Burglaries

There were no residential burglaries during the past weeks.


Commercial Burglaries

There were two commercial burglaries during the past week.

On Wednesday, 05-08-19 at an unknown time, an unknown subject cut a lock off a storage locker at the Public Storage facility on Mission Street and stole a vacuum cleaner and other household goods.

Between 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, 05-09-19 and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, 05-11-19, an unknown suspect broke into a storage locker at the Central Self Storage facility on 87th Street and stole two bicycles.


Vehicle Burglaries

There were six vehicle burglaries during the past week.

• Parking garage at 1851 Junipero Serra Boulevard (2nd floor)—a backpack was taken from a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 05-06-19 between 3:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. **On-line report.
• Unit block of Southgate Avenue—a pillow and $3 in change was taken from a 2012 Honda Civic. The left front window was smashed. Occurred between 3:00 p.m. on 05-07-19 and 8:00 a.m. on 05-08-19.
• 500 block of Brosnan Court—miscellaneous items were taken from a 2008 Volkswagen EOS. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred some time on 05-07-19. **On-line report.
• Nordstrom Rack parking lot—an iPad Air2 and $20 was taken from a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The method of entry is unknown. Occurred on 05-10-19 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. **On-line report.
• 6400 block of Mission Street—a backpack containing an iPad mini was taken from a 2013 Toyota Sienna. The passenger sliding glass door was shattered. Occurred on 05-11-19 between 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m.
• Moonstar restaurant parking lot—a backpack containing a wallet and debit card was taken from the floorboard behind the front passenger seat of a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder. The right rear window was smashed. Occurred on 05-12-19 between 4:15 p.m. and 6:40 p.m.

Stolen Vehicles

There was one vehicle stolen during the past week. It was recovered.

• 700 block of East Market Street—a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Occurred on 05-10-19 between 12:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. **Recovered by Oakland P.D. on 05-10-19.

Miscellaneous

• There were 12 domestic disturbance cases reported
• There was 1 shoplifting incident reported
• There were 5 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold
• There were 7 malicious mischief/vandalism case reported
• There were 3 arrests for public intoxication
• There was 1 hit and run collision reported
• There were 15 “boots” placed on cars for unpaid parking tickets


Scams/Other

Social Security Scam/Target Stores

I just wrote about the social security scam last week, but now there is a new twist on this scam. A 32-year old Daly City resident reported that on Monday, 05-06-19 he received a call from a subject who provided him with his social security number and birthday. The caller told the victim he needed to pay $3,400 in order for a warrant to be removed from the system. The caller told the victim that the government had an arrangement with the Target company and advised him to go to Target to purchase $3,400 in Target gift cards and provide the account information on the back of the cards. The victim completed the steps without incident or without Target personnel questioning his purchase. The suspect told the victim not to tell Target staff what the gift cards were for. Immediately after providing the information to the caller, the victim felt he had been defrauded.

Please DO NOT automatically believe when you are told your social security number has been comprised. Take the necessary steps to find out for yourself by contacting the Social Security Administration directly. According to the Social Security Administration’s website, reports about fraudulent phone calls from people claiming to be from the Social Security Administration are increasingly becoming more frequent, and the callers are becoming more threatening in their calls. If you suspect you have received a scam call, you should hang up and report details of the call to the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0217 or on line at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.
