**CURRENT UPDATE**
On May 19, 2019 at 7:43 p.m., the San Mateo Police Department received information from an alert community member advising they spotted the Hillsdale Mall armed suspect at the Laurelwood Shopping Center (1200 block of W Hillsdale Blvd). Officers quickly arrived, identified the suspect, and arrested him.
Please know this is a brief update to inform our community the suspect was captured and San Mateo continues to be a safe place to call home. This case is developing and officers are actively working it in the field. A formal press release will be issued tomorrow morning with additional details.
***OLDER UPDATE***
Hillsdale Mall has been searched and cleared. Business to resume as usual. Officers remain in the area. Again, this incident has not been confirmed, but should anyone see the subject of interest, please contact police immediately.
**ORIGINAL MESSAGE**
SMPD is currently investigating reports of an armed subject in the area of Hillsdale Mall. Although this has not been confirmed, our officers have flooded the area in an overabundance of caution. Officers are looking for a white male adult, possibly in his 20's, wearing a dark polo, dark pants, and carrying a black/brown duffel bag -- SEE ATTACHED IMAGE.
If you see this person of interest, please dial 9-1-1 and keep an eye on him until police arrive. The mall remains open, however, avoid the area if possible.
