...AN EARLY SEASON HEAT WAVE WILL IMPACT THE REGION THROUGH THE
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK...
Unseasonably hot temperatures will impact much of Southeast South
Carolina and Southeast Georgia today as dry high pressure builds
across the region. The combination of near record highs in the
upper 90s to near 100 degrees and moderate humidity levels will
push heat indices into the 100 to 103 degree range this afternoon.
Residents and visitors to the area should exercise caution as
heat of this magnitude, especially so early in the season, could
become hazardous if precautions are not taken.
This period of record to near record warmth will continue through
the Memorial Day weekend and likely extend well into next week
with temperatures nearing the century mark each afternoon away
from the coast.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
Look Before You Lock. DO NOT leave children or pets unattended in
a hot vehicle.
