5/29 Training Burn at Camp Parks in Dublin Between 11AM and 5PM
If you smell or see smoke near Camp Parks in Dublin today, please do not be alarmed. The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) Recruit Academy will be conducting a controlled vegetation management and training burn.
The controlled burn will be conducted between (approximately) 11:00AM and 5:00PM, and will be burned in small, low fire-intensity sections.
Prescribed vegetation management burns are carefully planned, monitored, and must meet strict criteria of fuel conditions, weather parameters, smoke management, and fire safety guidelines. When all conditions (prescriptions) are met, firefighters burn while monitoring the set criteria, fire behavior and designated fire control lines.
This low intensity fire in the natural environment has two primary purposes: 1) to reduce the opportunity for destructive uncontrolled fires, and 2) to provide safe vegetation fire training. This area is susceptible to rapid moving fires in the late summer and early fall. The prescribed burn will increase the defensible space for residents in the area and Camp Parks.
Both the ACFD and San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District will monitor the burn and be on high alert to mitigate any possible risks to the residents of Dublin and San Ramon.
