When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.


Notable Cases

On Monday, 05-20-19 at approximately 1:12 a.m., two subjects, a 43-year old South San Francisco resident and a 29-year old Daly City resident, were arrested for making a false police report after calling the Police Department and Fire Department, saying one of the subjects was assaulted and robbed. This occurred at Belhaven Avenue and Palomar Drive. They later admitted they did this to try to get a U-Visa.

On Wednesday, 05-22-19 at 8:02 p.m., Officer Bermudez and Officer Graner were working at the Serramonte Mall when they received a call regarding an auto burglary that occurred within the past five minutes. The mall dispatcher advised the burglary suspect was inside the mall with two females and gave a description of the subjects, as well as the suspect vehicle. (The subjects were captured on video surveillance footage breaking into a victim’s vehicle, taking a suitcase and backpack.) The officers stopped the subjects and ultimately arrested the male subject, a 22-year old San Francisco resident and two female subjects, both 21-years old from Hayward and Concord, for auto burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.

On Thursday, 05-23-19 at 1:19 a.m., Officer Lizana was dispatched to the 6100 block of Mission Street on a report of a subject who was pulling garbage bags out of a dumpster. The subject, a 29-year old Walnut Creek resident, initially provided false information to the officer. He was later arrested for that, as well as failure to register as a sex offender, failure to update his sex registration address and for an outstanding warrant.

On Thursday, 05-23-19 at 6:02 a.m., Officer Moody was dispatched to a report of a stalled vehicle with a man who was unconscious in the driver’s seat at a stop sign at Verducci Drive and Hampshire Court. Officer Moody arrived to find the subject being treated by fire department personnel. Officer Moody conducted field sobriety tests on the subject, a 21-year old Daly City. Officer Moody arrested the subject for driving under the influence after the subject could not satisfactorily perform the tests.

On Friday, 05-24-19 at 1:52 a.m., Officer Shoopman was dispatched to the unit block of Poncetta Drive on a report of a subject who was passed out in the back of an Uber car. The Uber driver picked up the subject in San Francisco, and reported that he could not wake up the rider when they arrived at the destination. After the Fire Department woke up the subject, they said the subject resisted their efforts of checking on the subject’s welfare. The subject even tried to enter his apartment without his keys. The subject, a 21-year old Daly City resident, was intoxicated and was later arrested for resisting/delaying a peace officer.

On Saturday, 05-24-19 at 2:11 a.m., a 33-year old Burlingame resident was arrested for driving under the influence after she was involved in a collision near the intersection of Mission Circle and Bepler Street.

On Saturday, 05-25-19 at 2:40 p.m., Officer Graner and Officer Lajoie were working at Serramonte Mall when they were dispatched to a call of a man who was running out of the Target store with unpaid merchandise. Dispatchers provided a description of the subject, and the officers, along with Serramonte security officers, combed the parking lot of the mall looking for the subject. Officer Graner saw a subject matching the description who was hiding behind a bush in the center median of Callan Boulevard. Officer Graner yelled at the subject to stop, and the subject took off running. The subject finally stopped on Southgate Avenue. The subject, a 31-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for shoplifting, resisting arrest, being in possession of methamphetamine and for being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Sunday, 05-26-19 at 3:46 a.m., a 19-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence and for being under 21-years old and driving under the influence. His female passenger, a 19-year old South San Francisco resident, was cited for possession of narcotics (cocaine). This occurred at Mission Street and John Daly Boulevard.

On Sunday, 05-26-19 at 5:20 a.m., Officer Reininger and Officer Cain were on patrol in the area of Sullivan Avenue and 92nd Street and saw a male who was slumped over in the driver’s seat of a Scion. Officer Reininger approached the vehicle and saw, in plain view, multiple open containers of beer and empty bottles strewn about the vehicle. The officer was able to open the door and reach in to turn off the vehicle. The subject, a 29-year old Daly City resident, was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Sunday, 05-26-19 at 10:02 p.m. a 31-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while involved in a collision resulting in an injury and for hit and run after fleeing the scene of the collision that occurred at St. Francis Boulevard and Campana Avenue.


Robberies

There was one robbery during the past week.

On 05-20-19 at 1:40 p.m., a 55-year old Daly City resident pushed a Target loss prevention officer after he was confronted for shoplifting. The subject left the store, and officers found him at the bus shelter and placed him under arrest for robbery.


Residential Burglaries

There were no residential burglaries but one at residential burglary during the past week.

On Saturday, 05-25-19 at 7:30 p.m., four unknown masked subjects, one observed to be holding a gun, attempted to burglarize a residence on the unit block of Peoria Street by kicking the side door of the residence. The subjects fled the scene in a silver vehicle. The victim’s neighbor saw the subjects and dialed 911 when she heard the subjects kicking at the door. Unfortunately, the suspects were gone upon police arrival. The suspects did not gain entry into the residence.


Commercial Burglaries

There was one commercial burglary during the past week.

Between Friday, 05-24-19 and Monday, 05-27-19, an unknown suspect burglarized a business on the 6000 block of Mission Street. The point of entry was via an unlocked rear door. The loss was a vehicle battery charging pack.


Vehicle Burglaries

There were six vehicle burglaries during the past week.

• 3rd Avenue/East Market Street—tool bags containing tools were taken from a Ford Econoline. The method of entry was a drill to the lock of the passenger side door. Occurred between 5:30 p.m. on 05-20-19 and 8:45 a.m. on 05-21-19.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near JC Penney—a purse containing a HP laptop and an iPhone was taken from a 2017 RAV4. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 05-21-19 at 5:39 p.m.
• Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near JC Penney—a suitcase containing clothing and a backpack containing an iPad, MacBook Pro and $3,000 was taken from a 2019 Jeep Compass. The left rear window was smashed. Occurred on 05-22-19 at 8:02 p.m. **An arrest was made. See “notable reports” for more information.
• Walgreen’s parking lot on San Pedro Road—nothing was taken from a 2015 Toyota Scion. The left front window was smashed. Occurred on 05-23-19 between midnight and 10:30 a.m.
• 6700 block of Mission Street—two backpacks containing cash and credit cards were taken from the backseat (underneath a jacket) and the front passenger seat floorboard of a 2001 Toyota Corolla. The front passenger window was smashed. Occurred on 05-25-19 between 3:35 p.m. and 3:50 p.m.
• Unit block of Southridge Way—a messenger bag containing student’s homework was taken from a 2016 Toyota Prius. The passenger window was smashed. Occurred between 7:00 p.m. on 05-25-19 and 12:00 p.m. on 05-26-19.


Stolen Vehicles

There were four vehicles stolen during the past week.

• Gellert Park—a 2017 Acura TLX. Occurred on 05-20-19 between 12:55 p.m. and 1:55 p.m. The victim left her keys on the bleachers while she went for a run in the park.
• 300 block of Valley Street—a 1999 Acura Integra. Occurred on 05-21-19 between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
• 89th Street/Southgate Avenue—a 1999 Honda Civic. Occurred between 11:30 p.m. on 05-21-19 and 6:00 a.m. on 05-22-19.
• 1st Avenue/Castle Street—a 2015 Toyota Camry. Occurred between 4:00 p.m. on 05-24-19 and 11:00 a.m. on 05-27-19.


Miscellaneous

• There were 13 domestic disturbance cases reported
• There were 3 shoplifting incidents reported
• There were 11 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold
• There were 12 malicious mischief/vandalism case reported
• There were 3 arrests for public intoxication
• There were 3 hit and run collisions reported
• There were 7 “boots” placed on cars for unpaid parking tickets

Kops and Kids Event—Saturday, June 1st (10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)

This event is always a lot of fun, and I hope you can attend. Together with the Pacifica Police Department, Colma Police Department, South San Francisco Police Department and the Broadmoor Police Department, this event will be at the Sea Bowl Bowling Center in Pacifica (4625 Coast Highway, Pacifica) on Saturday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In addition to free bowling for the kids, this event provides a great opportunity to meet local police officers, firefighters, and rescue personnel. There will be police vehicles, fire equipment, classic police vehicles, police dogs and, weather permitting, a helicopter.


Household Waste Disposal Event—Saturday, June 8, 2019

San Mateo County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) free of charge on Saturday, June 8. To participate, residents must schedule an appointment at San Mateo County’s HHW program: www.smchealth.org/hhw or by calling (650) 363-4718, selecting option 3. The event location will be disclosed once your appointment has been confirmed. No commercial waste is allowed. The limit is gallons (liquid) or 50 pounds (solid) per appointment.

Accepted items include acids/bases, aerosol cans, automotive supplies (car batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid), cleaning products, fertilizers, pesticides, flammable liquids, fluorescent lights (compact and tubes), paint, inks, and photo chemicals. NO radioactive, explosive, medical or commercial waste is allowed. All waste collected is reused, recycled, or stabilized for proper disposal to achieve zero waste being landfilled.
