...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of piedmont North Carolina and western North
Carolina, including the following areas, in piedmont North
Carolina, Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, Davie, Iredell, and
Lincoln. In western North Carolina, Avery, Burke Mountains,
Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk, Greater
Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, McDowell
Mountains, Mitchell, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, and
Yancey.

* through Sunday evening

* Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible across the region
today through Sunday, with some locations in and near the
mountains seeing 4 to 6 inches. Torrential rain showers
repeatedly affecting the same location may cause flash flooding
to develop very quickly.

* The heavy rainfall will cause streams to rise quickly and some
might come out of their banks. Urban flooding may also occur in
locations that have poor drainage. If more than 5 inches of rain
were to fall, some locations along and near the Blue Ridge
Escarpment could have isolated landslide activity, especially
along modified slopes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
