In May of 2019, Detectives from the Ojai Police Department began an investigation regarding graffiti at a local community park.
On May 14, 2019, Patrol Deputies responded to Libbey Park in downtown Ojai, regarding vandalism to park property. Upon their arrival, they discovered paint from a, “Paint-pen” style marker in several areas. This paint was consistent with criminal street gang graffiti. Through an investigation, detectives identified Emmanuel Alva, and Carlos Guevara as suspects in this crime.
On June 7, 2019, Deputies located both suspects and arrested them for the crime. Both Alva and Guevara were booked into custody at the Ventura County Main Jail for PC 186.22(d), participation in a criminal street gang, and PC 594(b)(2), graffiti.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is committed to investigating all gang-related incidents in order to keep neighborhoods free from the fear of criminal street gangs. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information relating to gang activity is encouraged to contact the Ojai Police Department.
