A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in the indictment of a man – already in custody on an unrelated gun charge from June 5 – in connection with an October 2018 homicide.

On October 2, 2018 at approximately 7:25 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Clayton Street in reference to a shots fired complaint. Responding officers then learned that a shooting victim, 19-year-old Grayson Ewell, had arrived at St. Francis hospital with a gunshot wound. Ewell was pronounced dead a short time later.

The case was assigned to Detective William Ball of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Ball identified 43-year-old Terrell Mobley as a suspect.

On June 10, Detective Ball presented the investigation to the New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment on the following charges:

·         Murder (First Degree)

·         Attempted Murder (Two Counts)

·         Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Three Counts)

·         Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Three Counts)

Mobley was already in custody following an arrest by the Street Crimes Unit on June 5 in the 1600 block of Coleman Street. At the time, he was found to be possession of a Cowbray PM-11 9mm handgun loaded with 21 rounds, including one in the chamber. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon in connection with that incident.

Mobley was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and given $40,000 cash-only bail related to the June 5 gun charges, and $1,180,000 for the charges in connection with the October homicide.

Captain Malcolm Stoddard, commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, applauded the efforts of everyone involved in the charges filed against Mobley.

“The efforts of our Street Crimes Unit resulted in the apprehension of an armed and dangerous actor, and the relentless investigation on the part of detectives led to charges in a previously unsolved homicide,” said Captain Stoddard.
