Mowing and Lawn Maintenance Reminder
The Village of Paw Paw asks that residents please keep on top of lawn care. That means keeping grass and weeds at a height no greater than 6 inches. If you are going on vacation or your mower is showing signs of disrepair, consider hiring a lawn service, neighborhood kid, or asking a friend for assistance.
Whose job is it?
The Village of Paw Paw is responsible for maintaining parks and recreation areas, along with other village-owned properties. Individual property owners are responsible for mowing their properties, including the adjacent rights-of-way.
What’s the rule?
The Village Code requires that grass may not exceed 6 inches in length and noxious weeds must be cut down or removed.
How do I make a report?
If you notice a property in the Village that has tall grass or noxious weeds, please make a report to the Community Development Coordinator, Leonard Lux, at 269-657-3148. You may also use the ordinance violation complaint form available at Village Hall or on our website www.pawpaw.net.
What happens next?
Once a report has been verified, the property owner has a 10-day compliance period to mow the property. If the property is not in compliance after ten days, the Village hires a contractor to mow, and the property owner bears the cost of the service plus an administrative penalty ($75). Further violations at the same property within one year are charged a penalty at the time the complaint is verified and no compliance period is given before the Village hires a contractor to mow. Unpaid mowing charges are assessed to the property.
