Advisory

Wilmington Police arrest man on robbery, weapons and resisting arrest charges:

Wilmington Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on various charges following a robbery incident.

On June 14 at approximately 12:01 p.m., members of the Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division were in the 200 block of South Connell Street when they observed 24-year-old Walter Lecompte standing over and violently striking a woman after stealing her phone. Police immediately exited their vehicle and ordered Lecompte to the ground, but he refused commands and fled into his home in the block.

The Crisis Management Tactical Team and the Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene and established communication with Lecompte. At various times during his communications with police, he provided false information in an attempt to lure police away from his residence. At approximately 1:13 p.m., Lecompte also called police and falsely reported a shooting at another location.

Police were able to execute a search warrant at the location and take Lecompte into custody without incident, also recovering a 3.5-inch folding knife.

Lecompte has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Robbery (Second Degree)
  • Providing a False Statement to Law Enforcement
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Lewdness
  • Malicious Interference with Emergency Communications

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $27,000 secured bail.
