Fireworks Alert!
The Monterey Park Police and Fire Departments want to remind you to have a safe and legal 4th of July.
The 4th of July is only 11 days away. Starting this week, firework stands in the City of Monterey Park will be opening for the sale of “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Use of “Safe and Sane” fireworks are allowed within the City of Monterey Park; however, discharge of “Safe and Sane” fireworks are limited to the 4th of July from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM. Use of illegal fireworks or modified “Safe and Sane” fireworks are prohibited. Failure to comply may result in a citation and/or a fine of $2,000.00 to $5,000.00.
Statistics also show that this time of year there is an increase of structure and vegetation fires. In addition to the monetary loss of property due to the fires, there are many fireworks-related injuries, especially involving children. An increase in firework-related fires and incidents may cause emergency responders to be busy with preventable incidents and delay them from responding to ordinary day-to-day calls.
Don’t ruin a great week and holiday by ending up with a fine, trip to the emergency room, or in Jail. The Monterey Park Arson Task Force which is made up of Police Officers and Firefighters will be out in numbers patrolling our City.
In general, if a firework explodes, flies, darts, or travels, they are illegal in California. If the fireworks that you possess do not have the State Fire Marshal seal on them, then they are illegal. Due to the extreme fire danger in California, the City of Monterey Park Police and Fire Departments are requesting that you use “Safe and Sane” fireworks in a responsible manner.
To report illegal fireworks, call the Monterey Park Police Department at 626-573-1311
The City of Monterey Park wishes everyone to have a safe and fun 4th of July holiday.
