Neighborhood Preservation
Neighborhoods are the building blocks of our community. When neighborhoods contain dangerous or abandoned buildings, litter, inoperable vehicles, and overgrown noxious weeds, this detracts from the wellbeing of the community and a sense of place and pride in the Village.
 
The Village of Paw Paw is a community filled with historic commercial structures and homes. About half of all residential structures were built prior to 1960 and 36% were constructed prior to 1939. These historic structures are a valuable part of the foundation of our community, but also come with additional maintenance to keep safe and habitable. Even homes more recently built need some maintenance work to keep them in line with community standards.
 
In an effort to promote safe neighborhoods, maintain property values, and fulfill community expectations, Village of Paw Paw staff will be stepping up active administration of the Village’s blight and property maintenance codes. The Village has created a pattern for reviewing properties for compliance more regularly and to ensure concerns are addressed in a consistent manner. Properties that are identified with code deficiencies will be asked to submit a resolution plan containing a timeline for mitigating the problems.
 
Additionally, we have created a form for submitting property concerns to village staff for follow up. If you have a concern about the upkeep of a property and would like to report it to the Village, you may use the form to do so. It can be access on our website www.pawpaw.net under the “Forms” tab.
