The Moraga-Orinda Fire District Plans to Conduct Live-Fire Training at Painted Rock in Moraga on Saturday June 29th
Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District and several cooperating fire agencies will be conducting live-fire training on the John Muir Land Trust’s Painted Rock property in Moraga on Saturday, June 29th. The training will begin at approximately 9:00 AM and will be concluded by 5:00 PM. In addition to training the project will reduce some of the heavy fuels in the area that have grown as a result of last winter’s abundant rains.
Safety is our number one priority. The exercise is being set up within control lines and executed according to a strict “go, no go” checklist. The exercise is also being coordinated with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the size and timing of the training fire will minimize smoke impacts on homes and other smoke-sensitive sites. If burning conditions change the training will be rescheduled.
Residents in the Carrol Ranch and Buckingham Drive neighborhoods may see or smell smoke in the area. Closing exterior doors and windows during the training will help to keep smoke from entering homes.
Signs cautioning motorists and bicycles of the additional fire equipment traffic and potential for reduced visibility along the roadway will be posted along Moraga Road. We will continue to keep local residents informed of any changes in the training plan via Nextdoor and MOFD Social Media.
