Advisory

Felonious assault investigation.

The Columbia Township Police Department has concluded an investigation of a felonious assault, which resulted in the arrest of a Columbia Township resident.

On Wednesday, June 26th, 2019, at approximately 9:30 P.M., Columbia Township Police were dispatched to an address on Cement City Road in Columbia Township for a domestic situation. On arrival, Officer Hovarter determined the incident involved 69-year-old male occupant of the residence, his adult daughter, her young child (six-years old), and his daughter’s adult male friend.

It was quickly determined that a verbal argument had devolved to the point where a shotgun was pulled and pointed at two of those present, prior to the officer’s arrival, and a round was then discharged into the air.

Robert Harold Fields was arrested at the scene and then lodged at the Jackson County Jail. A 12 guage shotgun was recovered from the scene. The report was forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, and Fields has since been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Felonious Assault), a four-year felony, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a five-year felony.

He has since been arraigned and released on bond.
