Insurance Rating Inspection
The members of Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue completed a (DOI) Dept of Insurance rating inspection Monday July 1. As the Chief and with over 25 years in the fire service I do not recall a time being more proud witnessing the men and women most of whom are volunteers demonstrate their skills. Several exercises were completed flawlessly and in nearly half the time allotted. The entire rating process is complex. During the rating inspection all three stations passed the 9s with the newest station at Hwy 9 & Gold Anchor Lane being an addition. This addition placed a large number of homes in the Tree Haven area within 5 miles of it where previously most were beyond 5 miles and some beyond 6 miles. Those beyond 6 miles could not even receive the basic class 9 rating and forced to pay very high insurance premiums. The inspector cannot tell us what the actual rating will be until everything is entered into their program. We are very confident that residents within 5 miles of either of our three stations will be seeing significant savings on their insurance premiums in the near future. Others previously over 6 miles away benefited from the station addition by becoming under the 5 miles or at least under 6 miles. We strived to help as many as we possibly could. Once the rating is known and made official we will have a split class rating and will announce it. The lower rating will apply to anyone living within the 5 miles of a station and those less than 6 but over 5 will be a Class 9. We cannot provide a time when this will be released. It could be within a couple weeks or take a couple months. If you see any of our members please take a second to Thank them for their work and dedication. A special Thanks to our Auxiliary and Board of Directors for their continued support. It took each and every single person to accomplish this long standing goal. Please do not contact your insurance agent regarding a lower rating until we know what it will be and publicly announce it. Those in the Tree Haven area previously beyond 6 miles from the main station paying Class 10 rates can likely contact their agents notifying them of the station addition and request the basic Class 9. Once the official lower rating is announced everyone within 5 miles may contact their agents for the added savings.
Stay Safe!
