Multiple Enforcement Team Deputies arrest Jeff Reeder of Redlands for Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm

DATE/TIME: Thursday, July 4, 2019 / 8:35 p.m.

INCIDENT: Assault on Peace Officer with a Firearm / Resisting an Executive Officer

LOCATION: 7400 Block Elm Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Jeff Michael Reeder, age 41, Redlands resident

VICTIMS: San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputies

SUMMARY:
On Thursday, July 4th at 8:35 pm, deputies assigned to the Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) at the Highland Police Department were dispatched to the 7400 block of Elm Street to assist Cal Fire personnel who were responding to a report of a palm tree on fire at the location. The deputies assisted with crowd control at the apartment complex while the fire department personnel extinguished the fire.

Deputies were contacted by a citizen who reported the suspect, Jeff Reeder, brandished a firearm at several citizens. When the deputies went to speak to Reeder a physical altercation occurred with a deputy. Reeder reached for a loaded handgun concealed inside his waistband. A second deputy was able to grab the handgun and disarm Reeder. Reeder broke free from the deputies and fled on foot but was arrested after a short foot chase through the apartment complex.

MET deputies’ job is to address recurrent serious criminal offenders, parolees-at-large, felony probationers, sex offenders, tracking criminal street gang activities, and assisting in the prosecution of street gang members as well as other serious offenders.

Reeder was booked into the West Valley Detention Center. He faces charges of Resisting an Executive Officer and Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm. His bail is set at $50,000 and he is scheduled for arraignment on July 9th in Superior Court in San Bernardino. All charges against Reeder will be sent to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office to be reviewed.
