Are you and your family prepared for “The Big One?” Do you know what you can do to help your family or friends in the event of a disaster? If the answer is no, then you may be interested in attending a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course.

The CERT program was designed with the citizen responder in mind. Residents are trained to help mitigate problems during the first 72 hours following a disaster.  It is during this crucial time period when damaged roads, disrupted communications, and high call volume may restrict access by professional emergency services.

Learn best practices in disaster preparedness, first aid, search and rescue, and fire safety, at free Community Emergency Response Team Training (C.E.R.T.) lead by the City’s public safety staff. Open to residents ages 18 years and older, courses will be presented as a series of two Saturday classes and one Sunday class, beginning on Saturday, August 17, 2019 and ending on Sunday, August 25, 2019.  Training will be provided from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Temple City Council Chambers, 5938 Kauffman Avenue. 

C.E.R.T. training will include a series of interactive activities that cover broad emergency response skills including search and rescue techniques, medical triage and disaster psychology.

Each course is designed to educated residents on Disaster Preparedness, CERT Organization, Disaster Psychology and Terrorism on August 17; Disaster Medical Operations 1 & 2 and Light Search and Rescue on August 24; Disaster Fire Safety on August 25.  The final course will end with an interactive simulation exercise where participants form mock disaster response teams and learn how to search for and rescue victims of a major earthquake.

Those who attend the classes will receive Community Emergency Response Team training certification.
