SMPD Arrests Two Suspects After Retail Theft and Vehicle Pursuit

San Mateo Police Department arrested two suspects after a report of theft from Home Depot. Following a vehicle pursuit, both suspects were taken into custody.

San Mateo, CA – San Mateo Police Department officers arrested two suspects following a vehicle pursuit where the suspects were fleeing after stealing merchandise from Home Depot located at 2001 Chess Drive. A coordinated effort by multiple officers helped capture both suspects and they were arrested on a multitude of charges.

On Monday, July 8, 2019 at 7:00 P.M., San Mateo Police Department received a call for assistance by asset protection officers from Home Depot located at 2001 Chess Drive. Officers learned two suspects stole hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise before fleeing in a black SUV. The caller described both suspects and vehicle, which helped officers identify them fleeing from the immediate area.

The suspects failed to stop, and led officers on a pursuit ending at the cul-de-sac of S Amphlett Blvd from Concar Drive. The driver stayed with his vehicle as the passenger fled from the car. Officers dynamically arrested the driver and set up a perimeter to capture the passenger. Understanding the dangers of following a fleeing suspect jumping over fences, officers methodically searched the area and were able to locate the passenger along Highway 101’s sound wall. He was safely taken into custody and both suspects were booked into San Mateo County Jail. One of our officers was injured during the incident and was medically treated for his wound.
