Advisory

Today and tonight

Heat Index Will Reach or Exceed 100 This Afternoon.

High temperatures today are forecast to be around 90 degrees. Very
high humidity levels will contribute to potentially hazardous heat
indices around 100 degrees this afternoon. Over southeast
Missouri, heat indices may reach 105 degrees for a short time,
before thunderstorms bring some relief today and tonight, mainly over
southeast Missouri and southwest Kentucky. The timing of the
strongest storms appears to be during the afternoon and early
evening hours. The primary hazard will be very heavy rainfall. A
few storms may briefly pulse up to severe levels, with strong
winds and hail.

Heat will continue to build Thursday into the weekend. An
Excessive Heat Watch is in effect Thursday noon to Sunday 7 pm.

Stay hydrated during this upcoming heat wave by drinking plenty
of fluids. Take frequent rest breaks in the shade if you must work
outdoors, or reschedule strenuous activity for a cooler time of
day.
