MONTCLAIR, CA - July 17, 2019

The City of Montclair is embarking on efforts to develop the Montclair Active Transportation Plan (ATP) and the Montclair Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plan. These plans have similar goals, which are to create a healthier Montclair by improving transportation options such as bicycling, walking and taking the bus. Although the goals are similar, each plan will include separate recommendations; the Active Transportation Plan is specific to city-wide improvements and the Safe Routes to School Plan is focused on improving areas around neighborhood schools.

The Mayor and City Council are highly supportive of these planning efforts. “The Montclair Active Transportation Plan and Montclair Safe Routes to School Plan are long-awaited and much-needed. The Plans will play a vital role in encouraging and promoting healthy habits and active transportation in the City of Montclair.”

The Montclair community will have many opportunities to participate in the planning processes for both Plans. Activities for the Plans include community workshops and meetings, Walking Safety Assessments, and surveys. Through these activities, community members will be able to share ideas and voice concerns on how to improve the walking, biking and transit experience to schools and other local destinations. Additionally, the City will form a Technical Advisory Committee for the Montclair Active Transportation Plan and Safe Routes to School Champions Committee for the Montclair Safe Routes to School Plan to allow community members to engage in the planning processes in more impactful ways.

The Montclair Active Transportation Plan and the Montclair Safe Routes to School effort are supported by grants from Caltrans and the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). The City has retained KOA Corporation, in association with sub-consultants on these efforts.

La Ciudad de Montclair Da Marcha al Plan de Transporte Activo y el Plan Rutas Seguras a la Escuela

MONTCLAIR, CA – July 17, 2019

La Ciudad de Montclair ha empezado a desarrollar el Plan de Transporte Activo (ATP) y el Plan Rutas Seguras a la Escuela (SRTS). El objetivo de ambos planes es brindar modalidades de transporte seguras y sostenibles para la comunidad y así crear una Ciudad más saludable. Por ende, los Planes se enfocarán en mejorar la experiencia de peatones, ciclistas y usuarios de transporte público.

La diferencia entre los planes se basa en su público objetivo. Por un lado, el Plan de Transporte Activo creará recomendaciones integrales para toda la ciudad; mientras que el Plan Rutas Seguras a la Escuela se concentrará en mejorar las áreas adyacentes a las escuelas de Montclair.

Ambos proyectos de planificación cuentan con el completo respaldo del alcalde y el concejal de la Ciudad: ‘’La Ciudad de Montclair ha esperado mucho para desarrollar un Plan de Transporte Activo y el Plan Rutas Seguras a la Escuela. Estos Planes juegan un papel fundamental para fomentar y promover hábitos saludables y modalidades de transporte sostenible en la Ciudad de Montclair’’.

Así mismo, la comunidad vecinal de Montclair tendrá varias oportunidades de participar en el proceso de planificación de dichos planes. Por medio de talleres, juntas comunitarias, asesorías de seguridad y encuestas, los vecinos podrán compartir sus ideas y preocupaciones en base a sus experiencias como peatones, ciclistas y usuarios del transporte público. A su vez, la Ciudad formará un Comité Técnico para el Plan de Transporte Activo y un Comité Campeón en Rutas Seguras para el Plan Rutas Seguras a la Escuela. Ambos comités les permitirán a los miembros de la comunidad participar en el proceso de planificación de una forma más eficaz.

El Plan de Transporte Activo y el Plan Rutas Seguras a la Escuela son auspiciados gracias a Caltrans y la Asociación de Gobiernos del Sur de California (SCAG). La Ciudad de Montclair está trabajando con KOA Corporation y sub-consultores en el desarrollo de estos planes.
