The City of Angels Camp is re-posting the following press release regarding PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs to remind our community to prepare for potential prolonged power outages.

SUBJECT: Emergency Kit- Tips to Prepare for Potential PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs

The City of Angels Camp reminds our community that it is important to be prepared and have a plan for PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff program (PSPS). Prepare for outages that may occur at any time and may last several days. Visit www.prepareforpowerdown.com for detailed information about preparing for power outages.

PG&E offers the following tips to prepare an emergency kit:

Stock up on enough supplies to last a week. Put the items in waterproof containers and store them in a place that’s easy to reach. Whether you are sheltering at home or evacuating, in a disaster situation you may need to get your supplies quickly.

FOOD AND WATER

• One gallon of drinking water per person per day
• Food that is nonperishable and easy to prepare without water for all members of your household. Remember food for any pets.
• Manual can opener, forks, spoons, and knives

EQUIPMENT

• Flash lights and extra batteries
• Battery-powered or a hand-crank weather radio
• Cell phones, battery packs, and portable chargers (solar chargers, etc). Remember, you may not have power for several days.

HEALTH AND PERSONAL SUPPLIES

• Basic first-aid kit
• Medication and eyeglasses
• Clothing and blankets
• Toiletries- Soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc
• Activities for children-Toys, books, games, cards.
• Cash and credit cards
• Important documents-copies of IDs, medical records, pet vaccinations, and family photos
• Other useful items- paper towels, trash bags, multipurpose tool that includes a knife

Remember to refresh your emergency kit periodically.

Remember to keep fuel in your vehicles in case you need to leave the area. Gas station pumps may not be working during power outages.

PG&E’s outages will occur in response to localized weather conditions and may not be fully known until the day of the event. The decision to turn off the power and the speed at which it is restored is planned and managed solely by PG&E. Citizens need to prepare for being without power for several days. PG&E will attempt to notify customers of PSPS outages through calls, texts, and emails using the contact information that PG&E has on file.
