Storm Event- Disaster Declaration

As a follow up to the previous release, we offer the following information. As of this time, no injuries have been reported because of this storm, however, substantial property damage has been reported across the city and our area. As a result, a Disaster Declaration has been issued for the City of Wisconsin Rapids.

The ATC electric transmission line serving much of the City’s east side remains out of service and crews are working to reenergize service to the City. Extensive powerline, poles and individual service lines are affected. Crews are presently working to restore power to the affected substations and then will begin working on power lines and individual services. Utility customers with service lines impacts are encouraged to report them to WR WWLC 715-423-6310. Residents are encouraged to contact an electrician if they believe there are impacts to the private connection to the electrical service. Mutual aid from five other utilities will be assisting our utility crews in our restoration efforts. It is estimated that it may take days to restore power to every utility customer.

Frozen food in closed, stocked freezers will stay frozen for at least two days. Refrigerated foods in closed refrigerators are good for 4-6 hours. When in doubt, throw it out.

The City’s compost sites will be open until dusk and 8am to 6pm tomorrow, Sunday July 21.

We thank all our city staff and all crews for their ongoing efforts during this unprecedented and unfortunate storm event.
