LAKE LURE POLICE END FOOT CHASE WITH FELONY ARREST

LAKE LURE POLICE END FOOT CHASE WITH FELONY ARREST

Lake Lure Police were advised on Saturday evening, July 20, 2019 that there was an individual in town wanted by the U.S. Marshalls Service and was considered Armed and Dangerous with Violent Tendencies.

After meeting with other agencies and constructing a plan for capture, Sergeant Glen Gittens attempted to bring the individual, Jesse Lee Boyd, DOB 11/20/1980, to the management office of the Geneva Riverside Tiki Bar, where Boyd worked as a cook.  As Mr. Boyd walked to the management office, an individual alerted Boyd that police were waiting for him.

At this point a foot chase ensued that took officers behind the Geneva Riverside Tiki Bar and along the Rocky Broad River toward the location of another establishment where a Wedding was taking place.  Officers communicated that Boyd continued swimming toward the Memorial Highway Bridge.  Lake Lure Officers positioned themselves on the bridge as well as the banks below, where Sergeant Gittens and Officer Tommy Lytle ordered Boyd to exit the river in which he complied and was taken into custody.

Boyd was taken to the Rutherford County Detention Center where he was booked on several Felony charges, 18 felony warrants from Des Moines Iowa for Forgery/Counterfeiting and other felony warrants from the U.S. Marshalls Office for Detainer/Fugitive-Dangerous Drugs.  Boyd remains at the detention center with a $250,000 Bond.

Chief Humphries commented on the incredible planning that took place to keep others at both establishments safe while attempting to capture Boyd.  “Sergeant Gittens, Officer Shuford, Officer Lytle and Officer Sanchez should be commended for this important capture here in our town.”
