Press Release: Police Activity for June

We would like to share some of the good police work done over this past month to help keep our community safe. The Milpitas Police Department investigated several notable cases and made numerous proactive arrests; which included drunk drivers, possession of controlled substances, warrant arrests, burglary, robbery, possession of firearms, and possession of stolen vehicles.
On June 2, 2019 at 6:27 p.m., three suspects stole a purse from the Michael Kors store at the Great Mall of the Bay Area. One of the suspects pushed the store manager as the trio fled. All three suspects were detained by officers and additional stolen property from other stores was recovered. The suspects were booked into jail for a variety of charges including robbery, burglary, conspiracy, resisting arrest, petty theft, and identity theft. (#19-153-142)
On June 4, 2019 at 8:30 p.m., an officer saw a person running through the parking lot of the McCarthy Ranch shopping center to an awaiting vehicle. The vehicle fled from the officer, but dropped the same person off nearby at Wal-Mart. As the person began running from officers again, the AT&T store on Ranch Drive called to report the same person had stolen two cell phones. Officers located and arrested the suspect in a nearby business complex. The suspect was booked into jail for burglary. (#19-155-155)
On June 7, 2019 at 9:09 p.m., an officer located a stolen rental vehicle in the parking lot of Wal-Mart on Ranch Drive. Officers conducted surveillance of the vehicle and arrested the two people as they entered the vehicle. Both suspects were both booked into jail for auto theft and possession of a stolen vehicle. On June 12, 2019 at 10:42 a.m., a suspect stole the keys to a Honda Odyssey van from an unlocked Ford F150 truck parked on Belbrook Way. The suspect then stole the Honda and returned to the residence on June 18, 2019, and stole a Nissan Altima. On June 27, 2019, a detective located the Honda in the City of Campbell and the driver was taken into custody without incident. The driver was in possession of the Nissan Altima’s key fob, which had been recovered in the City of Palo Alto earlier in the day. The driver was booked into jail for auto theft with a prior, possession of stolen property, and violation of probation. (#19-163-060 and #19-169-064)
On June 12, 2019 at 6:12 p.m., an officer was patrolling the parking lot of the Sonesta Hotel on Barber Lane and observed a suspicious Dodge Dakota truck. A subject was standing near the truck and the officer stopped to speak with them. A check on the license plate revealed the truck was reported as stolen to the San Jose Police Department. After further investigation, the subject was booked into jail for auto theft and violation of probation. (#19-163-125).
On June 15, 2019 at 3:11 a.m., an officer saw a Toyota Camry driving on Dempsey Road and Edsel Drive. A computer check revealed the license plates had been reported stolen to the San Jose Police Department. A traffic stop was conducted and a computer check of the vehicle’s VIN revealed the vehicle was reported as stolen to the San Jose Police Department. The two occupants were taken into custody. The driver was booked into jail for auto theft with a prior, auto theft, identity theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of counterfeit items, possession of burglary tools, under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The passenger was booked into jail for identity theft, under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, credit card fraud, and violation of probation. On June 17, 2019 at 12:04 p.m., a subject came to the Milpitas Police Department to be fingerprinted and photographed for a prior criminal citation that was issued by an officer. For an unknown reason, the subject became upset and upon leaving the front lobby of the police department purposely broke a side mirror of a marked police vehicle that was parked in the parking lot. The subject was arrested and booked into jail for vandalism. (#19-168-075)
On June 18, 2019 at 11:59 p.m., an officer investigated a DUI collision in the area of South Abel Street and South Main Street. A witness told the officer they had seen the driver throw something over a nearby fence into the backyard of a residence; but the officers was unable to locate any discarded item due to limited lighting at the time. The driver was booked into jail for DUI and driving without a license. The next day a resident called to report they located a firearm in their backyard, which was retrieved and reported stolen to the Phoenix Police Department. After the driver was released from jail, the driver was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a stolen firearm and booked into jail. (#19-159-167)
On June 18, 2019 at 1:44 a.m., a victim reported being robbed of his wallet and cellphone after being beaten with a wooden object at a residence on Elm Avenue. Officers were able to develop information on the suspect and the suspect vehicle. Later in the day, Detectives located suspect vehicle and arrested two suspects. A search of the suspect’s vehicle and their residence revealed two firearms, plus the victim’s property. One suspect was booked into jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm arm, and the other suspect was booked for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and committing a felony while on bail. On June 21, 2019 at 8:49 p.m., the Fremont Police Department requested the Milpitas Police Department attempt to locate a stolen Tesla X in the area of the Denny’s Restaurant on South Abbott Avenue. Officers were unable to follow the vehicle due to its erratic driving. An hour later, the vehicle was reported to be in the parking lot of the Embassy Suites on East Calaveras Boulevard. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a vehicle stop, where they arrested the driver without incident. The Fremont Police Department responded and took custody of the driver as part of their investigation. (#19-172-032)
