Attention Rutgers Community:
The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery which was reported to have occurred on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at approximately 10:03 PM on Nichol Avenue between Handy and Seaman Streets.
In this incident the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that she was approached by a male perpetrator who forcefully removed an item of value from her and then fled the area down Nichol Avenue towards Handy Street. No weapons were displayed in this incident and the victim was not physically injured.
The perpetrator is reported as a dark skinned male of Hispanic descent with no facial hair, a short haircut and wearing a blue basketball jersey with shorts.
The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the NBPD Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you that you can reduce your chances of being a crime victim by taking reasonable precautions, including:
• Immediately reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement;
• Remaining alert and aware of the people and circumstances around you;
• Avoid isolated or dark areas;
• Walking in groups when traveling during late night hours
