MEDIA RELEASE: Changes to Highway 51 in Beloit Township after Construction Designed to Slow Traffic
Contact Person: Lieutenant L. Jones (608)364-2984, Ext.15
In conjunction with the Rock County Sheriff's Office, the Town of Beloit Police Department announces post-construction changes to the traffic patterns on S. Riverside Drive (US Highway 51). This stretch of S. Riverside is a main thoroughfare in our jurisdiction and is historically a high crash area in our community. A recent traffic study recommended the changes made in the construction phase be completed to reduce the number of crashes our community experiences.
Please take note both Northbound and Southbound traffic has been reduced to one lane of traffic with a turn lane separating them in the middle. This is not a passing lane and using it as such is a violation. The speed zones on S. Riverside have not changed. The speed limit remains 40 mph north of Newark Road (County Q). Speeds increase incrementally to 55 mph north of E. Philhower Road.
In an attempt to foster a safe driving environment for both travelers, the residents and businesses in the area, Officers and Deputies will be monitoring and enforcing traffic laws along the new traffic pattern on HWY 51/Riverside Dr. Officers and Deputies will focus on speed violations, passing violations, and as always alcohol related violations. Please take note of the changes in the traffic patterns and drive safely.
