Press Release: Suspicious Device Rendered Safe at Walmart

On August 9, 2019, at 4:31 P.M., the Milpitas Police Department responded to the Walmart at 301 Ranch Drive on the report of a suspicious device inside the store. The store was evacuated as a precautionary measure while the device was evaluated.
The San Jose Police Department Bomb Squad responded to Walmart and rendered the device safe. Upon closer examination, the device was determined to be fireworks. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office provided an explosive detection canine to sweep the store for additional devices; none were located.
The investigation concluded at 11:05 P.M. There were no reported injuries and the Milpitas Police Department is currently conducting follow up to determine who may have placed the device inside the store.
