Arson Investigation at Black Diamond Mines Regional Park Case # 19-08073

ARRESTED – Jesus Israel Reyes-Ambriz 08/04/1981
On Tuesday, 08/13/19, a vegetation fire was started on the shoulder of the entrance road into Black Diamond Mines Regional Park. The fire was witnessed by an East Bay Regional Park District Ranger, who is also an on call fire fighter with EBRPD Fire, whose quick thinking and actions helped to prevent the spread of a potentially large and dangerous fire. The Ranger witnessed a suspect squirting lighter fluid onto a burning brush fire. The Ranger, with the assistance of Contra Costa County Fire Department, was able to quickly extinguish the fire. The fire burned an area approximately 30x50 feet in diameter along with a 20 foot section of wooden fencing. No structures were threatened during the fire.

Officers from East Bay Regional Park District Police identified the suspect and subsequently arrested him at the scene. The suspect was identified as Jesus Israel Reyes-Ambriz, 08/04/1981.

East Bay Regional Park District Police Department booked the suspect into the Martinez Detention Facility for one count of 451PC – Arson. He is being held on $75,000 bail.
