At a time when it's crucial to improve community relationships, the Morgan Hill Police Department expanded its capabilities in its community engagement efforts, launching the SPIDR Tech platform this week.

The platform enables the Morgan Hill Police Department to send mobile friendly and fully automated messages to victims of crimes and 911 callers and gives officers a way to better communicate with those they serve. “This technology will help us to meet our strategic objective of enhancing trust in the Department and providing improved services to victims of crime” says Police Chief David L. Swing.

Often due to a lack of resources, law enforcement agencies around the nation struggle to effectively communicate with their customers: crime victims. This results in a lack of transparency, unrealistic expectations, frustrating outcomes, and poor public perception.

The SPIDR Tech platform enables law enforcement agencies to automatically send one-to-one text messages to those customers. Messages are triggered off of both our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) data.

“Being a victim of a crime is never easy” says Captain Emil Kokesh. “Victims deserve to know they have been heard and that something is being done” he added. Once a report is taken victims need basic information, such as their report number or an explanation of next steps. With the Victim notifications platform, victims are proactively and automatically informed, resulting in less incoming administrative calls. The victim notifications module ensures most victims automatically receive a quick note and thorough, one-to-one message without any additional work from our staff.


SPIDR Tech was founded by two ex-police officers who witnessed firsthand the opportunity for police departments to match the standard of customer service consumers expect from the private sector.

The CEO, Rahul Sidhu, credits advice that he was given by his commanding officer when he was a rookie in his department. “Every department has a bank of trust,” Sidhu says. “Every time you walk an old lady across the street … you’re making a deposit in the bank of trust.”

The Morgan Hill Police Department shares the same belief that each interaction is a potential deposit into the bank of trust, and these messages will allow them to increase their balance.

“Our goal is to ensure that our customers, including Morgan Hill are providing their own customers a quality and level of service that they not only expect but also deserve.” Sidhu says.
