...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 9 PM MDT WEDNESDAY FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 200 IN NORTHWEST COLORADO... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR DRY THUNDERSTORMS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 202, 291, 293, 294, AND 295 IN NORTHWEST COLORADO AND 485, 486, AND 487 IN NORTHEAST UTAH... .Surface winds will increase Wednesday afternoon and evening combined with already hot and dry conditions. A Red Flag Warning was issued for Wednesday afternoon and evening over northwest Colorado for the resulting critical fire weather conditions. By Thursday, Red Flag conditions may not be met in all areas but the chances for thunderstorms increases Thursday afternoon. Since there has been a prolonged dry period, lightning from these thunderstorms could ignite new fires. Therefore, a Fire Weather Watch was issued for higher terrain in southwestern Colorado, northwest Colorado, and northeast Utah. The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Fire Weather Watch for dry thunderstorms, which is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...In Colorado, Fire Weather Zone 202 White River Forecast Area, Fire Weather Zone 291 Northern San Juan Forecast Area, Fire Weather Zone 293 Gunnison Basin Forecast Area, Fire Weather Zone 294 Southwest Colorado Upper West Forecast Area and Fire Weather Zone 295 Southwest Colorado Upper East Forecast Area. In Utah, Fire Weather Zone 485 Eastern Ashley National Forest, Fire Weather Zone 486 Eastern Uinta Basin and Fire Weather Zone 487 Book Cliffs.

* WINDS...West 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...15 to 20 percent.

* IMPACTS...Since there has been a prolonged dry period, lightning from potential thunderstorms could ignite new fires.

* AFFECTED AREAS: WHITE RIVER ... GUNNISON BASIN ... NORTHERN SAN JUAN ... SOUTHWEST COLORADO UPPER WEST FORECAST AREA ... BOOK CLIFFS ... SOUTHWEST COLORADO UPPER EAST FORECAST AREA ... EASTERN UINTAH BASIN ... EASTERN ASHLEY NATIONAL FOREST
