Public Works
 
Projects—
  • Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – Saw-cutting for concrete removals began the week of August 26th.  Over the holiday weekend activities are expected to be limited.  Full removal operations of sidewalk and some curb and gutter will begin on the North Side of Pearl Street.  Access to businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
 
  • Curran Road Highway Safety Improvement Program Project – Traffic Control and Protection measures are now up and erosion control protection measures including silt fence installation will begin shortly.  Underground work including storm sewer laterals will begin the week after Labor Day weekend.
 
  • 2019 Road Resurfacing Program – Asphalt removals over concrete curb and gutter began the week of August 26th.  Saw-cutting for concrete removals will begin shortly followed by removal and replacement operations after Labor Day.
 
Street Division—
  • Crews put down 180 tons of asphalt on Kensington Drive.
 
 
Economic Development
 
Ribbon Cuttings
Economic Development Staff attended ribbon cuttings for Prime Media Consulting held at BuddyZ and the Cullom Knoll at 3018 Hickory Dr. in McCullom Lake.
 
New Businesses
Leases have been signed for a smoothie shop which will offer fresh fruit smoothies as well as coffee and a food menu at 1104 Green Street; a sub sandwich shop at 323 Front Street; and a Nail Salon at 329 Front St.  All hope to open in the next month or two.
 
Mural Policy
A Public Art-Mural Policy has been approved to enhance the city’s downtown redevelopment. The Public Art Committee will meet soon to finalize the application process. 
 
MTI Expo (Manufacturing, Trade, and Industry Expo)
A career expo sponsored by MCC, MCHS Dist #156, City of McHenry, McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, McHenry County EDC, and McHenry County Workforce Network will be taking place on Thursday September 26 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McHenry East Campus, 1012 N. Green Street, McHenry.  This expo brings local McHenry County Industries to McHenry Community High School to help promote their needs and the educational pathways that could benefit students as they seek careers.  Senior students will be able to apply for $1,000 in post-secondary tech scholarships sponsored by the McHenry Sunrise Rotary Club.  Contact Carl Vallianatos, James Nelson, or Karyn Burmeister at McHenry High School District 156 or Doug Martin or Dorothy Wolf at the City of McHenry for more information.

During this time period the McHenry Police Department:
  • Handled 480 calls for service
  • Investigated 24 Motor Vehicle Accidents
  • Conducted 110 Traffic Stops
  • Conducted over 92 Business Checks and Foot Patrols
  • Handled 6 calls for service involving Domestic Disputes
  • Handled 6 calls for service involving crisis intervention
  • Arrested 7 individuals on State criminal charges
 
Personnel:
 
Officer Joshua Conway has been select as the McHenry Police Department’s next Canine Handler.  Officer Conway is a MCHS – East Campus graduate and has been with the police department since June of 2014.  Officer Conway will be paired with a police canine and attend extensive training in September at TOPS Kennels in Grayslake, Illinois.
 
Training:
 
Officer Robert Beaudoin attended training in in Enhanced Traffic Enforcement for Patrol hosted by the Elmhurst Police Department.
 
Detective Jaimie Prather and MCHS –East Campus SRO Paul Prather attended Sexual Assault Investigator training hosted by the Huntley Police Department.
 
Calls of Note:
 
During the early morning hours of Sunday, August 25th, 2019, officers responded to My Place Bar & Grill, 4621 W. Elm St., McHenry, for a reported burglary.  Officers learned that unknown offender(s) forced entry into the business, gained access to one of the video gaming machines and removed United States Currency.  The Investigations Unit collected evidence and is following up on this incident.
