Crime Alert/Crime Alert - Off Campus

Attention Rutgers Community:

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is investigating an aggravated assault and the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery which was reported to have occurred in the city of New Brunswick.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at approximately 12:33 AM on Mine Street between College Avenue and Union Street.

In this incident it was reported that the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, was approached by a female perpetrator who physically assaulted him and then fled the area in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to a local hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries, and was subsequently released. No weapons were used in this incident.

The perpetrator is described as a slightly overweight, white female with blonde hair, in her early twenties, wearing gray yoga pants and a white tank top.

The Rutgers University Police Department is actively investigating this incident and asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the Rutgers Police Department Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.

The second incident occurred on Monday, September 2, 2019 at approximately 5:10 PM at a local business located on French Street between Cogswell Place and Florence Street. In this incident the victim, who is an employee of the business and not affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that he was approached by two male perpetrators, one of whom displayed a firearm, while the other removed cash from the register. The males then fled the area on Comstock Street towards Jersey Avenue. The victim was not physically injured as a result of this incident.

The descriptions of the perpetrators are limited at this time.

The New Brunswick Police Department is actively investigating this incident and asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the New Brunswick Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.

• Immediately reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement;
• Remaining alert and aware of the people and circumstances around you;
• Avoid isolated or dark areas;
