Labor Day Marine Enforcement Operation Results


The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit conducted it's 2019 Labor Day Marine Enforcement Operation starting on August 30th through September 2nd. The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line as well as Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead.

Most of the operation was focused on the waterways with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lakes. A total of ten patrol vessels, an OHV team, the Sheriff's Dive Team and two Sheriff's Department helicopters were deployed throughout the area.

The Marine Enforcement unit conducted a total of one hundred ninety-five enforcement stops throughout the holiday weekend. There was a total of 12 arrests made for Boating Under the Influence. The following are the names of the individuals arrested during the operation:

Daniel Rathjen, 36 years old from Anaheim Hills, CA
Austin Kruse, 22 years old from Phoenix, AZ
Wayne Stafford, 38 years old from Windsor, CO
Chad Rollins, 23 years old from Fullerton, CA
Rommel Vasquez, 28 years old from Redondo Beach, CA
Donnie Jones, 40 years old from Los Angeles, CA
Valdemar Ayon, 40 years old from North Hollywood, CA
Nestor Carballo, 39 years old from Moreno Valley, CA
Nicholas Strebel, 32 years old from Moreno Valley, CA
Christopher Bromley, 39 years old from Temecula, CA
Jonathan Truejeque, 40 years old from Parker Dam, AZ
Joseph Cochrane, 36 years old from Lake Elsinore, CA

Approximately 90 citations were issued for various boating law violations as well as 105 verbal warnings. The Colorado River Station's Marine Enforcement Unit investigated an injury boat accident and a boat fire over the weekend. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind all boat operators that it is your responsibility as a prudent mariner to check the daily weather forecast to ensure you and your family’s safety, especially during monsoon season.

The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit urges all California residents to go online to californiaboatercard.com and take the online test to obtain their boater card which is now required by law. The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is, as always, dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and reminds everyone to wear their life vests and to boat sober.
